278. Qari Md. Ismail Zafar

Qualification: Hafiz, Qari, MA in Urdu
Qari Md. Ismail Zafar is a member of Madrasah Education Board of West Bengal. He started his journey from a Maktab in a mosque not because he got nothing to do but for his passion to serve his community.
He studied at a Maktab from where he completes Hifz Quran karim and in the year 1965 he receives a certificate of Qari from Madrasah Azmatia by the most famous Islamic scholar and freedom fighter Maulana Husain Ahmad Madani. Moreover, apart from being a student of Maktab he also attended school privately and a certificate holder of B. A. from Maulana Azad College. Subsequently after completing his bachelors Mr. Zafar pursued M. A. in Urdu. The next destination of his was Aliah Madrasah where he served as a school teacher for about 10 months.
His father insisted him to take care of the Maktab (primary level Madrasah) which was a part and still a part of Moula Ali Mosque. From 1970 to the 2000, he served the Madrasah with extreme enthusiasm. During these thirty years of service at Madrasah, he tried his level best to serve the elements of the community well which entrusted in Madrasa education. During an interactive session with EP he said, "It was my dream to fulfill the gap between two stream of the education; Madrasa and school. From side I tried to fulfill this gap through the Madrasah Babul Uloom situated at Maula Ali".






During his long voyage from Madrasah to the state Madrasah board, he was appointed as member of many educational and social organizations; like AIMPLB, Indo-Pak forum for peace and democracy, where he has put a lot to serve the community. He has been involved actively with dozens of local and national organizations.
He is a bright face amongst the people of the state and every intellectual who has connection with the welfare of the Muslim community knows him. Talking on the recent change of govt. in the state he disclosed, "It is a great change which people of the state have brought and we hope that the change would be in favour and welfare of the people of the state and it will bring wide range of improvement in the state". Talking about the Muslim community he added: "It is the need of the hour that Muslims should forget all their disputes. They should focus on Quran and education. I think that nothing can divide them if they hold tight the Quran, the prophet and Kalimah".
He is currently the patron of Jibreel International School, the first model Islamic English medium school of Kolkata; patron of The Eastern Post, the only English Weekly of Muslims from Kolkata; patron of A HAND, an NGO serving poor children in the field of education; Imam and Khateeb of Maula Ali Masjid.
